TJ Friedl is determined to return to the lineup as quickly as possible after fracturing his right wrist during a Cactus League game in March. Starting his rehab with Triple-A Louisville, Friedl, typically batting leadoff, managed a 1-for-3 performance with a double and a walk in his first game.
Despite an 0-for-4 outing the next day, Reds manager David Bell is eager for Friedl’s return, noting his dedication suggests it might not be long before he’s back in Cincinnati’s lineup regularly.

Bell acknowledged Friedl’s extensive efforts, stating that he’s focused on refining his timing at the plate while ensuring his overall physical readiness. Friedl has been diligent in his rehabilitation, progressing swiftly and maintaining his conditioning. Bell emphasized that once Friedl accumulates sufficient at-bats, he’ll rejoin the team. Regarding Friedl’s timeline for returning to the Majors, Bell indicated that the club will have a clearer picture by the end of the weekend but refrained from setting a specific date, preferring to allow the process to unfold naturally so Friedl can concentrate on his timing and performance at the plate.
In his third season with the Reds in 2023, Friedl had a breakout performance, boasting a .279/.352/.467 slash line with 18 home runs and 27 stolen bases.
Bell expressed excitement about Friedl’s impending return, highlighting his integral role within the team and the positive atmosphere he brings. Despite Friedl’s eagerness to return to action, his presence back on the field is a source of encouragement for the team.
Teammate Tyler Stephenson, who has played alongside Friedl since 2017 in the Reds’ system, emphasized Friedl’s consistent character and energetic demeanor, both on the field and in the clubhouse. Stephenson anticipates Friedl’s return eagerly, recognizing the impact he has on the team’s dynamics.
