Promising outfielder Dylan Carlson was initially slated to be the Cardinals’ starting center fielder on Opening Day, but a shoulder injury during Spring Training altered those plans. With Tommy Edman also sidelined, Carlson found himself in a competition for the starting role with Victor Scott II, seemingly securing it before his injury.
Yet to make an appearance this season, Carlson is on the brink of a significant step forward as he prepares to embark on a minor league rehab assignment, likely starting either Tuesday or Wednesday, as reported by MLB.com’s John Denton.
“Cardinals (center fielder) Dylan Carlson (sprained left shoulder) will begin his Minor League rehab assignment with Triple-A Memphis on Tuesday or Wednesday, manager Oli Marmol said,” Denton stated.
If Carlson can regain full health and find his rhythm during his minor league stint, he’s poised to assume a prominent role with St. Louis. With Edman still recovering and Scott recently demoted, along with fellow outfielder Jordan Walker, there’s ample opportunity for Carlson to make his mark.
Despite the Cardinals currently sitting at the bottom of the National League Central with a 13-14 record, fans can look forward to potential improvements with Carlson’s impending return.
