The Chicago Cubs’ list of injured players continues to lengthen with each passing day. Following the sidelining of stars like Seiya Suzuki, Kyle Hendricks, Drew Smyly, Justin Steele, and Julian Merryweather due to various injuries, Cody Bellinger has now joined their ranks on the injured list.
The former National League MVP sustained rib fractures during a game against the Houston Astros, while attempting to make a catch. No specific timetable for his return has been provided yet.
The injury occurred when Bellinger collided with the brick wall at Wrigley Field while chasing down a play in the top of the fourth inning. It seems he momentarily lost awareness of his surroundings, leading to the collision.
Despite the incident, Bellinger remained in the game for a brief period. However, after a pop out in the fifth inning, he decided to exit the field in the sixth inning, presumably to avoid aggravating the injury further. Despite his absence, the Cubs went on to secure a 7-2 victory over the Astros, dealing them another significant defeat.

Following the game, the 28-year-old stated that he felt a “dull pain” when breathing and initially believed he had only sustained a minor bruise. However, it turned out to be a more serious injury for him. This setback comes at a time when he was starting to show improvement at the plate. No specific timeline for Cody Bellinger’s return has been provided yet.
