The Minnesota Vikings have experienced a dynamic offseason. Following Kirk Cousins’ departure to the Atlanta Falcons, they faced the challenge of reevaluating their quarterback situation. Although they swiftly signed Sam Darnold after Cousins’ exit, it seems he may not be their ultimate solution.
Speculation suggests the Vikings are eyeing a first-round quarterback in this year’s draft, especially with the additional first-round pick obtained from the Houston Texans. They have the option to leverage both picks to move up and secure their future quarterback.
While J.J. McCarthy has been linked with the Vikings in recent weeks, Colin Cowherd has highlighted another prospect as a promising fit for the team. Cowherd emphasized the importance of selecting the ideal quarterback to suit their offensive system, hinting at the possibility of trading up to secure Drake Maye.
Are the Vikings preparing to trade up for Drake Maye?

Maye had Josh McCown as his high school coach, who now happens to be the newest quarterback coach for the Vikings. Cowherd highlighted several aspects of the Vikings’ offense and coaching staff that suggest a potential match with Maye in the future.
While the team’s dynamics would likely shift with Maye leading the offense instead of Cousins, Cowherd doesn’t see it as a negative move for the Vikings. In fact, he believes it could be the ideal fit for Maye, particularly early in his career.
Having a familiar coach like McCown could be beneficial, especially given McCown’s experience playing at the highest level.
