Dodger’s coach provides update on the injuries of their top young pitchers.

The Dodgers are facing the absence of two of their promising young pitchers at the beginning of the season. Bobby Miller, aged 25, has been sidelined with shoulder inflammation, landing him on the 15-day injured list (IL), while 24-year-old Emmet Sheehan has been placed on the 60-day IL due to forearm inflammation.

Miller might return to pitching relatively soon, but the longer the Dodgers keep him inactive, the lengthier his rehabilitation process could be. Currently, Miller has refrained from throwing for six consecutive days.

As for Sheehan, his return to professional pitching seems distant. He is essentially starting his recovery from scratch. His rehabilitation will involve a gradual progression, starting with long toss sessions, progressing to facing live hitters, and eventually transitioning to minor league rehab outings.

Despite these setbacks, the Dodgers anticipate the return of several quality pitchers this season, including Walker Buehler, who is close to rejoining the major league roster and is scheduled for another rehab start on Wednesday. The team will make a decision regarding his return thereafter.

Additionally, the Dodgers are hopeful for the return of franchise stalwart Clayton Kershaw later in the season, although they prioritize his recovery and aim to avoid rushing him back to the mound.

There’s also a chance for Dustin May to make an appearance this season, although he is recovering from his second major elbow surgery. The team will handle his rehabilitation with the utmost caution and care.
