Tommy Pham, a seasoned player, has secured a place with the struggling Chicago White Sox by finalizing a minor league agreement on Tuesday. The 36-year-old will head to Triple-A Charlotte starting Wednesday to prepare before joining the White Sox. In the 2023 postseason, Pham showcased his skills by batting .279 with three home runs and four RBIs across 16 games.
White Sox manager Pedro Grifol praised Pham’s experience and batting prowess, noting his ability to control the strike zone and his competitive edge. The White Sox, currently on a five-game losing streak and having dropped 10 of their last 11 games, are facing a challenging start to the season with just 34 runs scored, the lowest in the majors. Their scheduled game against Kansas City on Tuesday was postponed due to rain.
Pham, originally drafted by St. Louis in 2006, made his major league debut with the Cardinals in 2014. Over his 10-year career in the majors, he has maintained a batting average of .259 with 130 home runs and 431 RBIs, playing for teams such as Tampa Bay, San Diego, Cincinnati, and Boston.
