Breaking News: A coach sadly departs the Ohio State football team

The Ohio State football program underwent significant coaching changes during the offseason. Head Coach Ryan Day made some staffing adjustments, and there were also voluntary departures. Notably, Tony Alford left to join Michigan.

Ohio State was considering hiring a full-time assistant defensive line coach to support Larry Johnson as he nears retirement. Brandon Jordan was brought in as a part-time pass rush specialist to fill this role temporarily. However, Jordan has now reportedly left the program. He previously worked with Michigan State and the Seattle Seahawks before joining Ohio State in February.

The reasons for Jordan’s departure remain unclear. He may have chosen to leave after realizing there was no path to a full-time position, or Ryan Day might have decided his part-time role was no longer necessary. Details are still unknown.

Despite these coaching changes, Ohio State’s defense is expected to remain strong, particularly in the secondary. While having a pass rush specialist on staff could benefit the team, it’s not deemed essential for their success.

Looking ahead, Ohio State will eventually need to plan for Larry Johnson’s retirement. Given his age and the negative recruiting tactics used against him, this succession planning is crucial.

In terms of the current season, Jordan’s departure is unlikely to have a significant impact on Ohio State. We wish him the best in his future endeavors.
