It’s official now: The Orioles have recalled Kyle Stowers, while another outfielder has been sent to the minors as a result

Earlier on Monday, there was a buzz on Orioles social media following a report by The Athletic’s Britt Ghiroli indicating that Kyle Stowers was set to be called up to the team. Shortly after, the team confirmed the move, with Stowers being recalled while Heston Kjerstad was sent back down to the minors.

The decision to bring up Stowers came as a bit of a surprise, especially considering recent speculation that Austin Hays might return on Monday. Manager Brandon Hyde had hinted at Hays wrapping up his rehab stint at Double-A Bowie soon, where he had been performing well both at bat and on the base paths.

Stowers, aged 26, will be entering his third season in the big leagues once he makes an appearance this year. However, his performance in his previous 48 major league games over the past two years has been underwhelming, with a batting line of .207/.267/.331. Although he hit three home runs in 34 games two years ago, he failed to add any to his tally last season.
