While not his initial incident, Aroldis Chapman finds himself in the midst of perhaps the most peculiar suspension in his MLB tenure.
During Monday’s matchup against the New York Mets, the Pittsburgh Pirates reliever, Chapman, was ejected. Chapman expressed dissatisfaction with what he perceived as multiple missed strike calls by home-plate umpire Edwin Mescoso in the eighth inning. As a result, Mescoso promptly ejected Chapman from the game, prompting a brief exchange of words between the two before Chapman departed.

On Thursday, Major League Baseball announced disciplinary action against Chapman for his altercation with Mescoso. Chapman has been handed a two-game suspension along with a fine, although he retains the option to appeal the decision, as reported by Jon Heyman of the New York Post.
Considering Mescoso’s swift ejection of Chapman during the incident, the additional two-game suspension appears even more perplexing. The only plausible explanation seems to be that Chapman may have made a particularly offensive remark to Mescoso.
While Chapman has been involved in more heated incidents in the past, his exchange with Mescoso on Monday did not appear to reach the same intensity. Despite owning a 4.76 ERA over nine appearances in his inaugural season with Pittsburgh, this incident stands out as relatively mild in comparison.
